Types and functions of oil seals

Oil seals can be divided into various forms and different names according to the sealing function, characteristics, structure type, working state and sealing mechanism. Oil seals are classified according to the rotational speed of the shaft. Oil seals can be divided into low-speed oil seals (less than 6m/s) and high-speed oil seals (greater than 6m/s). According to the pressure level that the oil seal can withstand, it can be divided into normal pressure type oil seal and pressure resistant type (greater than 0.05Mpa) oil seal. According to the structure and sealing principle of the oil seal, it can be divided into standard oil seal and power return oil seal. In addition, according to the material classification of the oil seal components, it can be divided into oil seals with skeleton and oil seals without skeleton; oil seals with springs and oil seals without springs.
Labyrinth oil seal: The gap between the labyrinth oil seal and the shaft should not be too large or too small. If the gap is too small, the shaft will be easily worn. If the gap is too large, oil will leak. Since the seal is fixed on the shell and relatively fixed to the shaft, it cannot adapt to and compensate the shaft. The floating and shaft vibration will wear the oil seal gap more and more, eventually leading to oil leakage.
Rubber skeleton oil seal: The rubber skeleton oil seal is wrapped with metal skeleton and rubber. In order to effectively float together with the shaft, a spring is added on the inside of the sealing surface. Although it overcomes the deficiency that the labyrinth seal cannot float with the shaft, it will affect the Abrasion occurs, and it will also wear itself, which will lead to oil leakage after reaching a certain level.
Felt oil seal: Felt oil seal is a “V” groove processed on the bearing cover, which acts on the shaft with its own elasticity to seal, but it is easy to inhale tiny particles and make the felt lose its elasticity, which cannot compensate the vibration of the shaft, resulting in failure and oil leakage .
