Types and functions of oil seals

Oil seals can be divided into various forms and different names according to sealing function, characteristics, structure type, working state and sealing mechanism. Oil seals are classified according to the rotational speed of the shaft. Oil seals can be divided into low-speed oil seals (less than 6m/s) and high-speed oil seals (greater than 6m/s). According to the pressure level that the oil seal can withstand, it can be divided into normal pressure type oil seal and pressure type (greater than 0.05Mpa) oil seal. According to the structure and sealing principle of the oil seal, it can be divided into standard oil seal and dynamic return oil seal. In addition, according to the material classification of the oil seal components, it can be divided into a skeleton type oil seal and a skeleton type oil seal; a spring type oil seal and a springless type oil seal.
Labyrinth oil seal: The clearance between the labyrinth oil seal and the shaft cannot be too large or too small. If the gap is too small, the shaft will be easily worn, and if the gap is too large, oil will leak. Since the seal is fixed on the housing and relatively fixed to the shaft, it cannot adapt to and compensate for the shaft. The floating of the shaft, the vibration of the shaft will increase the wear of the oil seal gap, which will eventually lead to oil leakage.
Rubber skeleton oil seal: The rubber skeleton oil seal is wrapped by a metal skeleton with rubber. In order to effectively float together coaxially on the inner side of the sealing surface, a spring is added. Although the labyrinth seal cannot float with the shaft, it will affect the shaft. Abrasion occurs, and it will also wear itself, and when it reaches a certain level, it will lead to oil leakage.
Felt type oil seal: The felt type oil seal is to process a “V” groove on the bearing cap, and use its own elasticity to act on the shaft to seal, but it is easy to inhale tiny particles, which makes the felt lose its elasticity and cannot compensate for the vibration of the shaft, resulting in failure and oil leakage.
