The influence of speed on bearing and the reasons for affecting bearing speed

The speed of the bearing plays a key role in the heating factor of the bearing, and each bearing type has its own limit speed.
The range of speeds required for the service helps determine what type of bearing to use. Most bearing manufacturers provide the limit speed value of their products in their product catalogs. Practice has proved that it is better to work at a state below 90% of the limit speed
Speed selection of bearing categories
A. Ball bearings have higher limit speed and rotation accuracy than roller bearings, so ball bearings should be preferred at high speed.
B, under the condition of the same inner diameter, the smaller the outer diameter, the smaller the rolling body, the smaller the centrifugal inertia force of the rolling body added to the foreign raceway when running, so it is suitable for working at a higher speed. Therefore, at high speed, it is advisable to choose bearings with smaller outer diameter in the same diameter series. If a bearing with a smaller outer diameter is used and the bearing capacity cannot meet the requirements, the same bearing can be installed again, or a wide series of bearings can be considered.
C. The material and structure of the cage have a great influence on the bearing speed. Solid cages allow higher RPM than punch cages, and bronze solid cages allow higher RPM.
In general, deep groove ball bearings, angular contact bearings and cylindrical roller bearings should be selected in higher speed working situations.
Tapered roller bearings can be used in lower speed working conditions.
The limit speed of tapered roller bearings is generally about 65% of deep groove ball bearings, 70% of cylindrical roller bearings and 60% of angular contact ball bearings. The limit speed of thrust ball bearings is low and can only be used for low speed occasions.
Factors affecting bearing speed
The limit speed of the bearing is related to the type, load, accuracy, size, lubrication, clearance, cage and cooling conditions of the bearing. However, the most important factor is the allowable working temperature or lubricant of the bearing material. The limit speed of various types of bearings are listed in the bearing size and performance table of “Rolling Bearing Product Samples”. They are determined under the condition of oil lubrication and grease lubrication respectively. Their applicable scope is as follows:
1. Standard (G) grade tolerance bearings;
2. Radial bearing only bears radial load, and thrust bearing only bears axial load;
3. P is less than or equal to 0.1c (C is the basic rated dynamic load of the bearing);
4, rigid shaft and bearing seat;
5. Normal lubrication and cooling conditions.
When the bearing runs at a load of P greater than or equal to 0.1c, the working temperature of the bearing rises and the performance of the lubricant deteriorates relatively because of the increased contact stress between the raceway contact surface and the rolling body. Therefore, the limit speed of the bearing will decrease accordingly.
