Permanent magnet synchronous motors have several advantages over AC asynchronous motors.
A. High efficiency, which can be illustrated from the following aspects
1, Since the magnetic field of permanent magnet synchronous motor is generated by permanent magnets, thus avoiding excitation loss caused by generating magnetic field through excitation current.
2, the external characteristic efficiency curve of PM synchronous motor is much higher than that of asynchronous motor at light load, which is one of the biggest advantages of PM synchronous motor in energy saving compared with asynchronous motor. This is because usually when the motor is driving the load, it is rarely running at full power, this is because: on the one hand, the user in the motor selection is generally based on the load limit conditions to determine the motor power, and the chance of limit conditions is rare, and at the same time to prevent asynchronous conditions when the motor is burned, the user will also give the motor power margin; on the other hand, the designer in the design of the motor, in order to ensure the reliability of the motor. On the other hand, the designer in the design of the motor, in order to ensure the reliability of the motor, usually in the user requirements of the power based on a certain amount of power margin, which leads to the actual operation of the motor more than 90% is working at less than 70% of the rated power, especially to drive fans or pump loads. This results in the motor usually operating in the light load area. For induction motors, their efficiency is very low at light load, while permanent magnet synchronous motors can still maintain high efficiency at light load.
3, because of the high power factor of permanent magnet synchronous motor, so compared with asynchronous motor its current is smaller, accordingly the stator copper consumption of the motor is smaller, higher efficiency.
4, high system efficiency, permanent magnet motor parameters, especially the power factor, not affected by the number of motor poles, so it is easy to design a multi-pole motor, so that for the traditional need to drive the load motor through the gearbox, can be made with permanent magnet synchronous motor drive direct drive system, thus eliminating the gearbox, improve the transmission efficiency.
Second, high power factor: As the permanent magnet synchronous motor in the design, its power factor can be adjusted, and even designed to 1, and the number of poles motor has nothing to do with the asynchronous motor due to its own excitation characteristics, with the increase in the number of poles, will inevitably lead to lower and lower power factor, such as 8-pole motor, power factor is usually about 0.85, motor power factor is high has the following benefits.
1, high power factor, motor current is small, the motor stator copper consumption is reduced, more energy efficient
2, high power factor, the motor supporting power capacity can be lower, while other auxiliary facilities such as switches, cables, etc. can be smaller, the corresponding cost is lower
3, permanent magnet synchronous motor power factor is not affected by the number of motor poles, in the case of motor supporting system allows, the number of poles of the motor can be designed higher, the corresponding motor volume is smaller, the direct material cost of the motor is lower
Third, the structure is simple and flexible: because the parameters of permanent magnet synchronous motor is not affected by the number of motor poles, it is easy to realize the motor directly drive the load, eliminating the noisy and high failure rate of the gearbox.
