What is roller bearing slip?
When the bearing is working, the roller should do pure rolling motion on the inner and outer ring raceway. If the roller cage is required to drive enough drag power, it can overcome its resistance, when the roller drag power is not enough to overcome the resistance, then, in addition to rolling, but also accompanied by some sliding, and this relative to the inner ring (or outer ring) running speed difference, is skid.
What are the factors that cause roller bearings to skid and rub?
Roller bearing skidding is a necessary condition for rubbing bearings, but the occurrence of skidding may not necessarily cause surface rubbing.
Some factors that cause roller bearings to skid and rub are, such as shaft vibration and alternating load, which produce a force that can tear the lubricating oil film and lead to rubbing on part of the working face (roller and inner ring raceway working face is more common).
Compared with fatigue spalling, the depth of bearing rubbing is shallower and zonal. And compared with the normal working face, it is rough, uneven, bearing skid rub area is a large area of small pits, and the edge of the rub area is also dragging many small “streamline”. The pit depth in the central area of bearing rubbing is about 30~40 microns. A closer look at the electron microscope reveals that the pits are the result of small pieces of metal falling off the surface.
Therefore, it can be imagined that skid damage is the result of material transfer due to the interaction of uneven and rough surface of metal after the lubricating oil film is destroyed. Some materials are “stained”, forming pits; The more soiled parts protrude above the original surface. In addition, some parts of the working surface were bruised, which is closely related to the degree of alternating load and oil film damage. When it is serious, due to the excessive friction heat generated between the roller and the inner ring, the inner ring expands, reducing the radial clearance, so that the bearing is stuck.
