1. Pitting
Pitting: Refers to the small pits on the surface of parts that are scattered or clustered.
When we open the tapered roller bearing during the maintenance process, we will find that the bearing has many pitting spots on the inner ring raceway, which leads to the gradual temperature rise of the rollers on the cage and the inner ring raceway during the rotation process. , resulting in a hot shaft, the bearing is scrapped.
Causes of pitting on the raceway surface of tapered roller bearings:
①Metal surface fatigue, under the cyclic action of rolling contact stress, microscopic cracks are formed on the metal sub-surface, and gradually develop into pit-like tiny peelings.
② There are inclusions or large-grained carbides in the subsurface of the metal to form stress concentration, prematurely produce microscopic cracks and gradually develop into peeling.
③ Improper assembly or poor lubrication.
2. Bearing grinding
Bearing skinning: refers to the phenomenon of extremely thin metal peeling on the bearing surface due to fatigue.
Bearing skin grinding is one of the common faults in bearing maintenance, which is often found in bearing visual inspection. The following set of bearings is that during the rotation inspection process, the bearing workers found that the bearings rotated abnormally. After disassembling the bearings, they found that the rollers were scratched and discolored, and the inner raceway of the outer ring was rolled.
The reasons for the skinning of the bearing raceway surface are as follows:
①Early fatigue on the metal surface. Very shallow fatigue spalling due to rolling contact stress sliding friction.
②Poor material heat treatment.
③ Poor lubrication.
④The effect of overload stress.
3. Bearing stripping
Bearing peeling: refers to the peeling off of metal flakes on the bearing surface under the cyclic action of high contact stress.
Bearing peeling is one of the most common failures in bearing maintenance, and it is also one of the most harmful bearing failure factors in truck operation. After the bearing is peeled off, it has a certain depth and area, and the surface is uneven and scaly, with sharp groove angles, and obvious abnormal sounds can be heard during the bearing rotation inspection. Bearing peeling generally occurs on the raceway surface of the inner and outer rings of the bearing and the rolling surface of the roller.
The raceway surface of the inner ring of the bearing was peeled off. From the visual inspection of the bearing, it was found that the left bearing was stuck and abnormal sound. After the bearing was removed and disassembled, it was found that the outer raceway of the inner ring of the bearing was seriously peeled off. The peeled area was about 30×25mm.
Causes of bearing peeling:
① The material of the bearing is poor, and the hardness is not up to standard due to improper heat treatment and the strength is low.
② Impurities mixed in the grease are one of the causes of peeling off the outer raceway of the inner ring.
③ There are brutal operations during the assembly process of the trolley and the wheel set, and the impact force on the bearing raceway surface is one of the causes of bearing peeling.
4. Bearing burning
Sintering on the bearing raceway surface is the migration of molten metal adhered to the metal surface of the bearing. It is caused by a sharp rise in temperature caused by excessive or small bearing clearance, poor lubrication or impurities in the grease, and serious abrasions.
5. Grease discoloration
The discoloration of grease will also cause abnormal sound of the bearing, which will affect the use of the bearing and threaten the safety of operation. The following set of bearings. After being unloaded on site, it was found that the roller was scratched and the grease was discolored. After checking relevant information such as bearings, front covers, axle end bolts, rear gears, wheels, bearing saddles, side frames, bogies, etc., it was finally determined that the cause of grease discoloration and roller scratches was that the grease was mixed with water and the water Contains tiny particles, which cause the rollers to be scratched to varying degrees and the grease to change color, eventually leading to abnormal noise of the bearing.
6. The outer oil seal of the bearing escapes
The leakage of the bearing oil seal is one of the more common faults in the operation of the bearing. The bearing oil seal device can prevent the intrusion of dust, moisture, metal powder and other harmful substances from the outside, and prevent the lubricant in the bearing chamber from leaking.
7. Dents on bearing raceway surface
Bearing dents are caused by the lack of cleanliness of the bearing and the presence of metal or other debris inside. During the visual inspection of the bearing, the bearing rotated abnormally. After the bearing was unloaded and disassembled, it was found that there were many dents in the raceway of the inner ring of the bearing and the inner raceway of the outer ring.
After analysis, the bearing may not be clean enough during general maintenance, and there are hard particles mixed inside. The bearing itself has certain quality problems. When the vehicle is running and the bearing is rotating, due to the hard particles and the inner and outer raceways of the bearing Friction caused multiple dents on the inner raceway and the outer raceway. The rollers on the cage and the inner and outer rings of the bearing produce abnormal sounds during relative rotation.
