Bearing installation knowledge

Improper operation in the installation of bearings often leads to early damage of bearings or early failure in use, which greatly increases the cost of bearings.(HONBbearing02)
The common wrong ways to install are as follows
1. Running inner ring: the shaft and bearing inner hole are too loosely matched (commonly known as “running inner ring”)
Phenomenon: The shaft and the inner hole fit too loosely, causing slippage between the shaft and the inner hole surface. Sliding friction will cause heat generation, causing bearing damage due to heat generation.
Reason: Failure to select a suitable fit size or not to measure shaft diameter and bearing inner ring size data (machining error, etc.) during installation
Hazard:
1) The friction between the end face of the inner ring and the shaft shoulder generates heat and cracks. When “running the inner ring”, the sliding friction between the inner ring and the shaft will generate a high temperature. Since the contact surface between the end face of the inner ring and the shaft shoulder is small, the temperature will be higher. The end face of the inner ring will generate thermal cracks. The continuous extension of the thermal cracks will cause the inner ring of the bearing to break during use.
2) Adhesion occurs after the shaft and the inner hole surface are heated. Since the “running inner ring” causes sliding friction between the inner hole and the shaft surface, the high temperature caused melts the surface metal and causes adhesion.
2. Running outer ring: the hole diameter of the housing and the outer diameter of the bearing are too loose (commonly known as “running outer ring”)
Phenomenon: the hole diameter of the housing and the outer diameter of the bearing are too loose, causing slippage between their surfaces. Sliding friction will cause heat generation, causing the bearing to heat up and be damaged.
Reason: The appropriate fitting size was not selected according to the requirements or the size data (processing error, etc.) of the housing aperture and bearing outer ring were not measured during installation.
Hazard: Sliding friction will cause heat generation, shorten bearing life, and cause bearing heat generation and damage.
3. The hammer, flat shovel, etc. directly hit the bearing
Install the bearing with interference fit of the inner ring (or outer ring). It is forbidden to directly strike the end face of the inner ring (or outer ring) of the bearing with a hammer. This will easily break the rib. The sleeve should be placed on the end face of the inner ring (or outer ring), and be hammered with a hammer to install.
How to extend the service life of bearings?
1. Choose the right fit size.
2. The data must be measured during assembly.
3. Bearing heating cannot be over temperature.
4. Clean and assemble, prohibit debris from entering the raceway.
5. Use special tools. Bearing heaters, sleeves, etc.
6. Apply lubricant.
